Citizen scientists have discovered the first cases of honey bees infected by the zombie fly Apocephalus borealis in Nova Scotia, Maine and western North Carolina.  The Nova Scotia records are the first from the eastern part of Canada.  The North Carolina record is the southernmost record from the southern states.  The record from Maine is especially notable because A. borealis was first described as a new species of phorid fly by Charles Brues in 1924 from Maine.
